I keep forgetting to give you the latest news on Grace.
First Mike informed me that she was feeling much better and even had found a job. Not in a hairsalon, something else but I did not understand as what. The cell phone lines to Kenya usually are very bad.
But then some days later she got arrested for smoking ganja (marihuana). I talked to her on the phone too. She was actually crying. And I thought she couldn't! But in fact I don't even think it is very bad. She now has decided to go back to her village and not stay in Mombasa. She understands that she needs to change her environment to change her life.
Then also Janeth and I spend some good time together. She actually explained to me why she avoided doing things with me. She doesn't want to integrate me into her life, not introduce me to her friends (only the best ones) or to her family. I am here only for a short time and indeed told her that I will be travelling on and will not make any promisses. Because of that she doesn't want to show me to everyone as her boyfriend, because she doesn't want to have to explain later that I have gone again. Also she says she can't neglect her business, her family and her friends for someone who is not going to stay anyway. Of course that makes sense. It's not my way of doing things, I usually get absorbed completely. But I do understand what she says, I only wish I had understood it a little sooner.
My favorite club in Dar is the Q-bar. They have a good life band on fridays. The singing is not very good but the musicians are. And they have played exactly what I wanted to hear on two nights. The first time I was thinking about how I missed listening to Jimi Hendrix. That week they were playing some local songs and some soft rock and love songs. Then suddenly they invited a japanese looking guest to the stage. He grabs a guitar and they start playing Hey Joe and Wild Thing. The guitarist of the band does the singing on these numbers, and he can really sing too. Then next week I've got Black Magic Woman in my head all the time. I am wondering if it is about a woman that practices black magic, or about a woman who is black and magical. That friday in the Q-bar they play the Santana version of that song! And the next day I find Fleetwood Mac's version amongst Janeth's 15-CD collection. I like the Fleetwood Mac version better, the lyrics are slightly different:
Yes, don't turn your back on me baby
You're messin' around with your tricks
Don't turn your back on me baby
Cause you might just break up my magic stick
That I find very funny! I know exactly what they mean.

Francesco Mareterra:
Quote:"she understands that she needs to change her environment to change her life".Needs no further explanation I would say. Tells all about you instead of her, don't you agree ? You poor little white devil and lucky bird ! Cordial greetings from your psychologist and spiritual companion Frans.
